Largest Schools by City
City pages ranking the largest individual public schools in 35 major metros, by campus enrollment in the 2023–24 NCES Common Core of Data.
District statistics describe governing agencies; city pages describe places. Each page in this index groups public schools by the city in their CCD location address and ranks the fifteen largest campuses, with each school’s district, level, enrollment and free or reduced-price lunch share. The totals are campus-location totals: they count every student in a school physically located in the city, whichever agency runs it, and they exclude students who live in the city but attend school outside it. That is the right lens for questions about big campuses — how large the largest high schools are, how concentrated enrollment is, and how campuses compare within one metro — and the wrong lens for budgets or staffing, which live on the district pages.

The pattern repeats across metros: a handful of very large comprehensive high schools enroll several thousand students each, while most elementary campuses stay in the hundreds. Virtual academies and alternative campuses occasionally top a city list, and their CCD school type identifies them in the source file. For the biggest individual campuses in the country regardless of city, see the largest schools ranking.
