Terms of Use

By the Public School Stats Editorial Team · Last updated: October 2026

The terms that govern use of Public School Stats. By using this site you accept them.

The content

Public School Stats republishes statistics produced by the United States federal government, principally the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) Common Core of Data and EDFacts. Federal government data are not subject to copyright in the United States and may be reused freely; we ask only that you preserve the year labels and source attributions that accuracy requires. Our original text, page designs and compilations are © Public School Stats and may be quoted with attribution and a link. Automated scraping that disregards robots.txt or that imposes unreasonable load on the site is prohibited.

Accuracy

We extract figures programmatically from published source files and label every figure with its school or fiscal year, but we do not warrant that any figure is complete, current or fit for a particular purpose. Source files are revised by their publishers; districts are reorganized; and measures carry the limitations described in our methodology pages. For consequential decisions, verify the figure in the source file named on the page. The site is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use this site to violate any law, to attempt to breach its security, to misrepresent its figures by stripping year labels or sources in republication, or to imply endorsement by NCES, the Department of Education, this site, or any school district. Links to this site are welcome and require no permission; framing our pages inside another site in a way that obscures their origin is not permitted.

External links

Pages link to official sources, principally nces.ed.gov. We are not responsible for the content, availability or policies of external sites. Advertising displayed on this site is served by third-party networks; advertisers are responsible for their own claims, and the presence of an advertisement is not an endorsement by Public School Stats of any product, service or school.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Public School Stats and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from use of, or inability to use, this site or its figures, including decisions made in reliance on republished statistics that later prove to have been revised at the source. Our aggregate liability for any direct claim is limited to the amount you paid to use the site, which is zero. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

Corrections do not create a duty of real-time accuracy

We welcome corrections and act on verified ones, as described on the contact page, but the site republishes periodic federal files on a periodic production cycle; between cycles, a source revision may not yet be reflected here. The year labels and version notes in our methodology pages tell you exactly which file vintage a page was built from, so you can judge its currency for your purpose.

Changes and governing terms

We may update these terms; the current version is the one posted here with its update date. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the site operator is based, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect. Questions about these terms can be sent via the contact page. See also the Privacy Policy and Disclaimer.
