Send corrections, questions and requests using the form below. The most useful messages name the page, the figure and the source you believe is correct.
Corrections
Our figures are extracted from published federal files, so most “errors” turn out to be one of three things: a district was revised between the provisional and final file versions; a figure belongs to a different school year than the reader expected (check the year label on the row); or an agency’s structure differs from its public brand — New York City’s geographic districts are the famous example. If you believe a figure is wrong, tell us the page address, the exact figure, and what the correct value should be with its source. We re-extract from the source file rather than hand-editing numbers, and we reply with what the file shows either way.
Data requests
Everything on this site derives from public files that anyone can download free from NCES at nces.ed.gov/ccd. If you need a district or measure we have not published yet, ask — requests influence what we build next — but for urgent work, the source files plus our methodology guides will get you to the same numbers we would publish. We do not sell data, and we do not provide student-level records of any kind; the CCD is aggregated institutional data and contains no individual student information.
Response time and privacy
Messages go to the editorial team inbox and are normally answered within a few business days. We use your email address only to reply to your message; see the Privacy Policy for how this site handles information generally. Please do not send personal information about students — we cannot use it, and we delete it on receipt.
For journalists and researchers
If you are citing a figure from this site in published work, the citation that protects your readers is the figure plus its year plus its survey — for example, “enrollment 419,929 (NCES CCD LEA Membership, 2023–24).” Every page’s source line names the survey. If you need the underlying rows, the NCES files are free public downloads, and our collection guide explains the file families and identifiers (LEAID for districts, NCESSCH for schools) needed to reproduce any table here. We are glad to help locate a file or explain a definition, but we cannot supply figures for years or measures we have not published, provide student-level data (the federal files contain none), or pre-clear characterizations of what the numbers mean — that judgment is yours, and our methodology pages are written to inform it.
For districts and schools listed
If you administer a district or school that appears on this site and a figure looks wrong, the fastest route is the corrections process above: page, figure, and the value your own state submission shows. Remember that our source is your state’s submission to NCES for the labeled year, so the most common explanations are a revised submission after our extraction, a mid-year reorganization the annual file does not yet reflect, or a difference between your agency’s public brand and its federal agency record (charter networks and supervisory unions are frequent examples). We re-extract from the federal file on every confirmed discrepancy and note the update date on the corrected page.
